Too Much Heidonism
We are saying that we are poor. Well it depends on one's definition of "poor". What I simply observe in us Filipinos is that we are heidonists... we are lovers of "good time and pleasures".
We party a lot of time. Just imagine a family of 5 (average household number in the Philippines). The father is the breadwinner and earns P5,000 to P8,000 a month. The family celebrates 5 Birthday Parties annually, Town Fiesta once a year, Graduation Blowout once a year, Wedding Anniversary once a year, All Soul's Day annually, Christmas Day celebration once every year, New Year's Day yearly, Death Anniversary of kins yearly... to mention a few (12 of them, right). Since there are 12 months in a year, it means that the family celebrates at least one occasion every month. If the family spends P5,000 per occasion, do you think something is left for education, food, electricity and other basic necessities? Whoah! Nothing's left, that's why every family of 5 in the above income category resorts to "utang" or credit and loans.
Real progress will come from us... through discipline in every aspect of our life. No one's leading the Filipinos towards genuine progress through family discipline, but instead leaders give promises of a progressive year through dole-outs, government loans etc... just like dogs barking at the wrong tree.
We Need The Cheka!
Cheka is the Russian version for Secret Police. In the Philippines, it seems nobody is policing the Local Government Units (LGUs). The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is powerless. Why? Well, ask them. They're gonna tell you that they are only tasked to supervise the LGUs, not to police them. If that's the case, then who will police them?, I asked. None, the DILG answered. Ergo, corruption is everywhere. This thing called CORRUPTION has been clothed clandestinely... in a friendly sheep's clothing... SOP. For most of us, it means Standard Operating Procedure. But... hey, look closely, it suggests an "under the table" transaction which became standard in some LGUs. Most of the people in LGUs think SOP is a legal thing. If one asks "how much is the SOP?", then one has to answer either 30, 50, 60% or even more, depending on the avarice of the government official or employee.
I believe that governments were created to promote discipline, order, and balance in a chaotic society of barbaric and opportunistic individuals. If there is no discipline and order, then there is no right for such government to exist.

Why Doctors Are Leaving?
I don't hate my colleagues who have decided and are planning to leave the Philippines for better opportunities abroad. In fact, I tell them to go on with their plans. If that's the only way for this government to wake up, to listen to us... then so be it. We doctors are not the typical workers who go into the streets and ask for salary increases, justice, etc. We are the silent workers who keep our sufferings for the sake of our people, our patients... our dignity as doctors. Just imagine a doctor who is used to go on a 24 hour duty every other day in a hospital given a mere ten thousand pesos a month? A public school teacher who works only 8 hours a day and being off on summer can get even more. Try computing their salaries on an hourly basis. Worst, I learned that GSIS janitors can get even more than doctors. Now where is justice there?
I am a doctor and experienced life in a hospital, both government and private. We can't take our breakfast often. We miss our lunch sometimes. Dinner? It's a thing of the past when you're on duty. We can't leave our patients dead. Our colleagues are off at 5 pm and we are left with inexperienced nurses who don't even know what BID is. One of the saddest memories I had in a hospital was when I missed my Christmas at home. I was on duty. I was left with my patients and their families who shared their tikoy's with me.
Now I am happy that my colleagues are leaving, so the government learns of its gross mismanagement. The Philippines will one day wake up, sans doctors and nurses... but casual employees whom politicians dearly loved. I wonder, will the government hire quacks and albularios?

Lawyers Should Compose The Jury
During the time of King Solomon, there were no lawyers who acted as advocates to either plaintiff or defendant. Remember the story of two women who placed the king in a dilemma? Since each of them was trying to persuade the king that she was the mother of the baby, King Solomon ordered his swordsman to cut the body of the baby into half. The real mother cried for mercy and Solomon handed the baby to her.
We can be King Solomon in the provision of real justice. Let the accuser and the accused stand before the jury! Let them tell their stories... the truth shall prevail! Let the lawyers compose the jury and decide the case rather than act as advocates! That way, we can have speedy trials and prevent innocent souls from going to jail just because of a lawyer's misguidance.
No More Death Penalty!
No more dealth penalty! That's my cry. Who are we to take one's life? Who are we to judge? Are we not sinners too? The Bible is clear in saying, "no one is righteous, no not one." Furthermore, the Book says that if our left eye causes us to sin, take it out. Better to live with one eye than go to hell with two eyes. This is God's wisdom that need to be considered by our justices. Why not make laws that instead of death penalty, we remove that part of the body that causes the person to steal or commit rape, for example. Do you think he will continue stealing or raping innocent souls? In that way, we provide justice whilst following the orders of the GREAT MASTER.
No More Elections!
How I wish there's no more election of government officials in this country. Let those who are competent hold the reins of government! Just allow the Commision on Appointments select the person who can better manage this ailing nation. All government officials from the president down to the barangay captains be appointees. We can save a lot of money and resources since no more money will be spent in vote buying and campaigns. Political feuds will end since there will be no more political contenders who will create goons for their safety.
Let's not copy what the west is doing with their government! We are independent and so we can manage ourselves in a different way. Let's not be plagiarists!
Legislation
I simply don't like our senators, congressmen, SP and SB members making laws (legislating) for us. Many of them are simply politicians who do not have any knowledge in law. Some are actors who won because of their popularity. A lot of them won because of their glittering gold and filial connections. Government money is being wasted since many laws are not implemented. It seems that we are only good at making laws for nothing. We have too many laws... when we can't even follow the Ten Laws or Commandments handed down to us by Moses.
Why not let the justices legislate instead? They are the most competent legislators... I think. That way, we can save a lot of government money from salaries, pork barrel, SOP's, etc... What do you think?
Physiology Of Freedom
I can blog therefore I am!
Democracy
I'm not at all convinced with the democratic principles adhered to by the Philippine government which follows the dictum " a government of the people, by the people and for the people." It is not a good democracy manifested during elections. People vote for gold and heaven. They disregard the outcome.
It should not be a government of the people and by the people as Lincoln once said, but rather a government for the people alone! The people can't govern themselves. They can't be all leaders. They have varied goals. They just have to follow a leader... towards a common vision. A vision for the people... for everyone!
